Library Card & Bar Code
All patrons should have a library card with a bar code from one of the SWITCH schools (Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University, Concordia University – Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design [MIAD], Mount Mary University, St. Francis de Sales Seminary, or Wisconsin Lutheran College).
Community Library Cards:
If you are not associated with one of those schools and would like to borrow materials, you may get a library card from Sacred Heart without charge. Please have some form of photo identification ready, such as a driver’s license.
Books and audio-visual materials may be borrowed for 28 days, and are renewable 1 time. There is a replacement fee of $50 (or the cost of the material, whichever is higher) if materials are not returned. SHSST faculty may borrow SHSST items for 1 year. All patrons will receive an e-mail reminder prior to the due date, as well as after the due date.
Class reserve items may be borrowed for 4 hours, and may be taken out using the self-check system. An electronic notice will be sent if overdue.
Laptops, the iPad, and the Kindle may be borrowed for 5 days, and are renewable 1 time.
Items that have not been requested by another patron may be renewed. You may renew something online via TOPCAT, in person, or by phone. To renew via the catalog, you must have your bar code/patron id and PIN ready.
Patrons may request items from the collection that are currently in use by another patron. You may place a hold on an item online via TOPCAT, or through a member of the library staff. When that item is returned to the library, you will be notified by an email. Items are held in the library offices for 10 days.
If a requested item is checked out, it can be recalled when the initial loan period is over. Items needed for course reserves can be recalled before the initial loan period is over.
Holds may not be placed on course reserve items.
Patrons will be charged a replacement fee for items not returned with 11 days of the due date. The fee is $50, or the replacement cost of the item, whichever is higher. This fee can be waived if the item is returned.
Charges of $50 or more will block a patron from borrowing any items from a SWITCH library until that amount is paid in full.
Should you need an item not found within SWITCH, we offer inter-library loan. Please see a library staff member for assistance or email us a request (firstname.lastname@example.org) including details on the item(s) needed.
SHSST Style Manual:
All students at SHSST are required to use the school’s style manual, which is based on the latest edition of Turabian. There are sections on plagiarism, inclusive language, and proper citation formats for ecclesial documents. The link will open in a new window.
If you have books or other materials you’d like to donate, please contact the library staff.
We will go through the donations and decide what materials to add to the library. Any materials not added to the collection are made available for students to take. Remaining items are sent to Better World Books for online sale; a portion of the profits from these sales are donated to Books for Africa.
